"La Dame de Fer"
The first thing that comes to my mind when thinking about Paris is, of course, the Eiffel Tower. It is no surprise that this great monument is an iconic symbol of France. Many people think of it as a symbol of love and are immediately moved by its beauty, but to me it is more than that.
Although today it is admired by many, it has not always been this way. It was constructed to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution and was meant to stand for 20 years after its inauguration in 1889 at the Exposition Universelle. Many people protested against it but in the end, the tower accomplished its goal, which was to bring cultures together and let the world know that France was as strong as ever.
When I visited The Eiffel Tower for the first time, I cannot say I was not blown away by its beauty and its magnificence. It is awkwardly standing above every other historical building making a bold statement about 'strength' and modernity. It is one thing to see pictures and imagine what it really looks like in person, but once you are there staring at it, it is surreal.
As I walked through the Champ de Mars, I was amazed to see so many people of different nationalities gathered to see the iconic Tour Eiffel. I could see groups of people taking pictures, couples having picnics and families bike riding around this beautiful park. I decided to sit down and admire the scenery with a group of new friends.
During the class excursion, I decided to go up the stairs and admire the city from above. It was tough going up the hundreds of steps but I can say it was worth it. I then went all the way up the top through the elevator. The view of the city of Paris was completely breath-taking and that image is one of the things that will never leave my mind.
A couple of days later I came back to the same spot but this time in the evening and it was amazing. The billions of lights that adorn it make the tower almost magical and they give a show every evening.
This exquisite 324 meters masterpiece is a mixture of art and technology and it is unlike any other in the world.
