The Centre Pompidou is a completely different type of museum from the rest. It displays a type of modern art. The pieces range from solid color canvas to the awkward shapes that come together to form a picture or landscape in many different colors. The artists that are on display include Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Jean Dubuffet and more.
This museum certainly caught my eye, it was not the typical museum where you can see self-portraits of kings and queens or religious monuments. Instead, it is about being original and creating pieces of art that are going to make the audience think and really interpret the meaning based on their own perspective.
One of the pieces I found interesting was the urinal by R. Mutt (picture below). It is a clear example of contemporary art, this type of piece would not have been accepted in the 17th or 18th century.
Some of the paintings were very grotesque and others very revealing leaving very little to the imagination. This is part of the Post-Modernism era, the revealing of our vulnerability and a more realistic view of the human itself.
My favorite part of this museum was the photo gallery. The photos were very artistic and each of those pictures told a story. A photograph can capture a moment for life!
Paintings on the wall as well as a wave of neon colors invade a section of the modern art gallery. Neon signs and flashy lights really bring a new type of art. Also, the use of lines and 3-D textures bring a modern touch to the pieces displayed at the museum.
Aside from all the crazy and unique art that is found inside the museum, a great attraction is the museum itself. It's see through walls show that it has nothing to hide and it's willing to display everything that is happening inside. The huge slide that greets the museum's visitors is not only one of a kind but it also offers an amazing view of the city.
The modern era offers an innovative approach to art. It is better referenced as, "Art for the sake of art."
