The experience of visiting a castle is very exciting. Versailles is beautiful from every angle. Right as you approach is golden gates, you can imagine who lived in this château.
In the beginning, it was King Louis XIII's hunting lodge. It was later made expanded and made into a castle by King Louis XIV. The Louvre was not suitable for him and wanted a beautiful castle built for him and this is how Versailles came to be. He moved the court and government of France to Versailles in 1692. It was a reflection of the King's wealth and power.
It wasn't until the 19th century that Versailles officially became a museum open to the public. Just like at the Louvre, the amount of people that visit Versailles is huge. As I was walking through the different rooms inside the palace, I could hear many languages being spoken at once, they ranged from Spanish, Italian, Chinese, French and English all at once.
As a museum, it displays portraits of the King and the Queen and also it praises the heroes of France such as Napoleon. Every corner of the museum displays a glorious France.
After walking around in the palace, I went out into the gardens of Versailles. If you go without a map, you could easily get lost in the beautiful maze. The garden is enormous and has sculptures, fountains and even a lake. Instead of bike riding around the garden, I decided to ride the little boats around the lake. It was my first time on a boat and I can say that I had a great time. The experience was so relaxing and the view of the palace from a distance was great.
